New publication: For the sake of resilience and multifunctionality, let's diversify planted forests!
Alain Paquette, lab alumni Rita Sousa-Silva, and a team of researchers have just published an article in Conservation Letters on the importance of diversity in planted forests. Currently, 131 million ha of monospecific planted forests are under intensive management. Though important for providing timber, they are potentially more susceptible to disturbances than natural or diverse planted forests. This study highlighted the increasing scientific evidence for increased resilience and ecosystem service provision of diverse planted forests. It also proposed five concrete steps to foster the adoption of diverse planted forests in our management practices.
