Urban green spaces are being increasingly recognized for their role in enhancing human health and well-being, for example by promoting physical activity and by reducing stress. However, green spaces may also contain trees that produce and emit aeroallergenic pollen, and the exposure to allergenic tree species may increase the risks for asthma and allergic sensitization.
The objective of this work is to establish the potential allergenic value of common tree species in urban areas, as well as provide recommendations on the planning and managing of healthy green spaces.
