Working with the city of Joliette, we identified the areas which would benefit the most from having additional trees being planted based on 8 criteria: surface temperature, canopy cover, poverty index, zoning type, tree age structure, tree density, cyclist and pedestrian potential, and functional diversity. Then, we will estimate the ecosystem services which will be provided to the city by the current forest, and ones which are 50 and 100 % more abundant. A budget for each of these scenarios will also be established to determine a cost/benefit ratio. Finally, we will help the city design a tree planting strategy, based on all the above-mentioned criteria, which is resilient to future climate change and human pressures.
