Every year in a large city such as Montreal thousands of trees are felled for different reasons, including dieback and disease. However, while we become aware of the importance of trees for our own well-being and health, paradoxically we have very little information on them, and in particular the reasons which motivate these felling. Could the removal have been prevented, for example by acting on the causes?
In collaboration with several municipalities in Quebec, the Center for Forest Research and the Research Chair on the Urban Forest, the project's goal is to keep a log of tree felling in participating boroughs and cities, with the aim of acquiring knowledge on the reasons behind these removals, and possibly propose and implement solutions to improve the health and longevity of urban trees.
