Montréal IDENT experiment focus on the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. The positive relationship between productivity and functional diversity can be related to complementarity and selection effect. The complementarity of resources use is linked to species functional traits. One strong assumption of trait-base ecology is that differences between species are more important than difference between individuals. However, functional traits variation at intraspecific level could explain some positive or negative species responses to an increase in functional diversity.
In this project, we want to measure four species functional traits at species level and individual level to explain species complementarity and selection effect in mixture of increasing functional diversity.
